Multi-tier security, traffic curbs in place
Srinagar, Sep 18:Prime Minister Narendra Modi is gearing up to address a massive rally in Srinagar on Thursday, marking a critical moment in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) campaign for the second phase of Jammu and Kashmir’s assembly elections. The rally, a major push for the BJP, aims to drum up support for the party’s candidates as it seeks to strengthen its foothold in the region.
In anticipation of the Prime Minister’s visit, the city has been placed under tight security. A multi-tier system has been deployed around the rally venue, with security forces spread across Srinagar to ensure the event proceeds without incident. “We have executed a thorough security plan in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedure for such high-level events,” said a senior police official overseeing the arrangements.
The Srinagar Traffic Police has issued a detailed traffic advisory to manage the expected influx of people and ensure smooth traffic flow during the Prime Minister’s visit. Key routes, including Pantha Chowk to Ram Munshi Bagh, will see restrictions between 4:00 AM and 4:00 PM on Thursday, and alternative routes have been designated for motorists.
Additionally, traffic assistance points will be established at several locations to guide drivers. Vehicles parked incorrectly will be towed, and motorists have been urged to park in designated areas. Emergency vehicles will be given priority access through the shortest routes possible.
This visit marks PM Modi’s third trip to the Kashmir Valley this year, following high-profile events in March and June. The BJP has fielded 19 candidates in Kashmir and is leaving a few seats open for ‘like-minded’ independent candidates and allied parties. The rally is expected to inject fresh momentum into the party’s campaign as it works to secure its electoral position in the region.
“PM Modi’s influence in the Valley is strong, and this rally is crucial for securing votes and boosting the morale of BJP candidates,” said a party leader from Jammu and Kashmir.
The rally is seen as a pivotal step in the BJP’s broader strategy to expand its presence in the Valley ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
