Red Alert in J&K for Heavy Rain Flash Floods

Srinagar July 15: A red alert has been sounded across Jammu and Kashmir as a potent combination of monsoon winds and a western disturbance is set to unleash widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall across the region in the next 24 hours.

According to the local meteorological department, the most intense spells are expected to occur early tomorrow morning and continue into the afternoon, affecting both Jammu and the Kashmir Valley. Authorities have warned of potential flash floods, particularly in Jammu and south Kashmir, where rainfall intensity is likely to be at its peak.
“This is a high-impact weather event. The convergence of monsoonal moisture with an active western disturbance is creating extremely favorable conditions for intense rain,” said Faizan Arif, a well-known weather forecaster and founder of Kashmir Weather.
“People in vulnerable areas should remain on alert, avoid travel in flood-prone zones, and stay updated with official advisories. The risk of flash floods and landslides is significantly high,” he cautioned.
The administration has urged residents to exercise caution, particularly those living near rivers, streams, and landslide-prone areas, and advised travelers to avoid hilly routes unless absolutely necessary.
Disaster response teams have been put on standby. This system is being closely monitored, and further updates will be issued as the situation develops.
