Story: A psychological thriller, where the protagonist Ajay Devgn plays the character of a professional killer. In the opening scene he is seen in the chase scene where he falls prey to the bullets of some mafias. By the time he recovers he forgets everything about his ongoing life before being the victim of bullets. He is unable to refresh his memory and can’t even remember his Naam[name]. During his further journey after recovery, how he faces the ups and downs, the journey of his self-finding is interestingly portrayed is set to regain his lost identity. This thriller brings in innumerable twists and turns indeed mysterious ones. It also raises queries about faithfulness, betrayal while pondering a million-dollar question -Who is he? What the climax discloses about this man amalgamation of his past and present life forms the crux of the story.
Direction: Director Anees Bazmee is known to have given strong captivating stories on the big screen always. His recent release,” Bhool Bhulaiyaa-3.” has garnered a huge box office response with excellent critical appreciation. Having directed,” Naam” which is a delayed release so obviously, the audiences will not relate to this psychological thriller. Judging his directorial abilities with this delayed release will not justify his directorial capacity and tenacity of his craft. In fact, he spoke to us and wished the producer gets good return for his investment. Unlike many who would not like their delayed film to release as it becomes outdated. Directing this film in the past obvious will reflect technicalities of the then times. All in all, his directorial capabilities would have suited the mentality of the then audiences as this film were completed in 2000 and is releasing in2024.
Performances: Ajay is known for his electrifying action and so this action thriller nothing new for him, He has given an apt performance. While the other cast and credits have ably delivered whatever they were supposed to do.
Editing, screenplay and dialogues: Needless to say, the loose screen play and slow-paced editing creates boring atmosphere. Audiences may cringe to be seated on their chair as freshness goes missing. Probably the makers should have tired with DI [Digital Intermediate] which at least would bring soothing effect to the eyes. The colour corrections could have also uplifted the look of the film. Dialogues also has nothing much to offer. However, the climax was gripping and creates a little enthusiasm.
Verdict-Watch film Naam for Ajay Devgn. All in all, audiences’ who loved the masala -suspense -drama films of the 90’s and 2000 will like to enter the theatres. GenZ should watch “Naam” to know how films were made in that era.
