“Victims of Cavillation, Victims of Democide — Kashmiri Pandits in Exile Face State Repression Yet Again!”Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir

In a deeply disturbing and authoritarian move, the Jammu & Kashmir administration has arrested Dr. Sandeep Mawa, a prominent Kashmiri Pandit leader and heritage-rights activist, while he was peacefully attempting to reclaim a centuries-old Pandit temple site — looted, encroached, and systematically destroyed over decades.

This arrest is not just an outrage — it is a direct assault on Sanatan Dharma, on the cultural and religious identity of Kashmiri Pandits, and on the constitutional right to protest. As the temples of our ancestors are sold off like real estate, those who dare to speak up are being dragged, detained, and silenced — all while the Central Government watches in silence.

Is reclaiming your own sacred heritage now a criminal act in the land of your birth?

Dr. Mawa’s “crime” was standing at the doorstep of his stolen legacy, demanding what is just and rightful. His arrest, witnessed by supporters and local citizens, has sent shockwaves across the Pandit diaspora and Hindu civil society.

This act of repression is being condemned globally as an attack not only on a community but on India’s soul.

A member of the Reclaim Kashmir Heritage Movement put it plainly:

“This is not governance — this is democide through bureaucratic cowardice and calculated delay. We are the victims of cavillation. The state hesitates to protect us. The Centre refuses to speak. And our temples crumble under silence.”

This event is not isolated — it fits into a broader, chilling pattern: the systematic suppression of Kashmiri Pandits who raise their voices, the selling of temple lands without consent, the erasure of sacred sites, and the intimidation of those trying to return.

Today, Dr. Mawa is behind bars. Tomorrow, it could be any Pandit who dares to reclaim the past.

What message is this government sending?

That justice belongs only to the loudest, not the most wronged?

That Sanatan Dharma has no place in Kashmir anymore?

This is a declaration of war on memory, identity, and dharma.
It is the state telling its exiled children to stay gone — that truth is unwelcome, and heritage is for sale.

We Demand:
The immediate and unconditional release of Dr. Sandeep Mawa and others
Criminal prosecution of those involved in the illegal sale, encroachment, and destruction of temple properties

A public explanation and accountability from the Jammu & Kashmir administration
Legal protection for all Pandit heritage sites, and the right to peacefully protest and reclaim them

An independent judicial inquiry into the use of state force against peaceful heritage reclamation efforts

This is not just about one man.
This is about hundreds of thousands of Pandits in exile, whose history is being bulldozed, whose gods are being buried, and whose dignity is being traded for silence.

We will not be erased. We will not forget. And we will return — temple by temple, voice by voice, truth by truth.

“The world must now decide:
Will you stand with justice? Or
stand silent as kashmiri pandit is criminalized in its own homeland?,” said Satish Mahaldar
