Baramulla, July 25: Five persons were injured after a Sumo vehicle and a tipper skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge near Nadihal Ladoora along the Baramulla–Handwara road on Saturday amid heavy rainfall, officials said.
The accident triggered an immediate rescue operation involving the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army 32RR , and local volunteers. Rescue teams rushed to the spot and worked in challenging weather conditions to evacuate the injured from the gorge.
All five injured persons were successfully rescued and shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla for medical treatment. The condition of the injured was not immediately known.
Eyewitnesses said the swift response of security forces and local residents played a crucial role in ensuring the timely evacuation of the victims and preventing a greater tragedy.
Authorities have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated the necessary proceedings. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained, while further details are awaited.
