Lolab , Aug 3: A woman lost her life after a cloudburst triggered flash floods in the Himli area of Lolab in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday, officials said.
The deceased has been identified as Naseema Begum, wife of Mohammad Ayub and a resident of Warnow. Her body was recovered following a search operation launched after the flash flood struck the area.
Officials said the cloudburst caused a sudden surge of water, leading to localized damage. A couple of houses were damaged after trees were uprooted and fell during the incident. However, no major or widespread damage has been reported so far.
Meanwhile, personnel of the Indian Army promptly reached the affected area and joined relief and assistance efforts on the ground. Army teams have been helping residents assess the damage and providing necessary support to affected families.
Local residents expressed appreciation for the Army’s swift response and presence in the area during the difficult situation.
Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and assess losses caused by the cloudburst, while further details are awaited.
