Baramulla, June 2: The SPANDAN League 2026 – North Kashmir Football Championship concluded on a high note at the Showkat Ali Stadium, Baramulla, with Baramulla Blue defeating Baramulla Red 1-0 in a closely contested final to emerge as champions of the senior division.
Organized by the 112 Naga Battalion, BSF Baramulla, in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) under the Khelo India initiative, the championship witnessed participation from eight teams from across North Kashmir. A total of 32 matches were played during the tournament, showcasing exceptional football talent and sportsmanship. The league jerseys and trophies were unveiled by Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha during a ceremony held at Uri on May 12, 2026.
The grand finale was graced by Commissioner Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, as the Chief Guest. Among the distinguished dignitaries present were Deputy Commissioner Baramulla SF Hamid, DIG BSF D.S. Sindhu, Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla Gurinder Pal Singh, and Commandant, 112 Naga Battalion, Nakul Vaid, along with senior officers from the civil administration, police, and BSF.
In the final match, Baramulla Blue produced a disciplined performance to defeat Baramulla Red by a solitary goal and lift the SPANDAN League 2026 trophy.
Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries appreciated the efforts of the organizers and congratulated the participating teams for displaying remarkable sportsmanship and competitive spirit throughout the tournament.
At the conclusion of the event, the Chief Guest and other dignitaries felicitated the winning team, runners-up, officials, and organizers with trophies, jerseys, and mementos. Cash prizes were also distributed among the winning teams in recognition of their outstanding performances.
The successful championship provided a valuable platform for young footballers to showcase their talent while promoting sports culture, teamwork, and healthy competition among the youth of North Kashmir.
