Wife Becomes Lifeline: Donates Part of Her Liver to Give Husband a New Lease on Life
Mumbai (Anil Bedag): A remarkable story of love, courage, and medical excellence has emerged from New Era Hospital in Navi Mumbai, touching hearts across the city. Mukesh Ramchandra Tandel, a 48-year-old auto-rickshaw driver, was battling severe liver cirrhosis and multiple life-threatening complications. His condition had deteriorated to such an extent that even simple activities like walking, eating, or getting out of bed had become extremely difficult. According to doctors, a liver transplant was his only chance of survival.

At this critical moment, his wife, Janabai Tandel, made the courageous decision to donate 65 percent of her liver to save her husband’s life. A dedicated team of nearly 18 doctors and more than 20 medical staff members successfully carried out the highly complex 12–13-hour surgery. Led by Dr. Anurag Shrimal and Dr. Rohan Chaudhary, the procedure became the hospital’s first successful living donor liver transplant. Today, both donor and recipient are recovering well, and their story stands not only as a major medical achievement but also as an inspiring example of love, sacrifice, and the importance of organ donation.
