Geology & Mining Department Pulwama Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Mining; 8 Vehicles Seized, Rs 1.34 Lakh Penalty Imposed;Seven vehicle’s seized in District Srinagar


PULWAMA, November 11: Geology and Mining Department Pulwama headed by District Mineral Officer Pulwama Dr Mohammad Sakeem has strengthened its action against illegal mining and unauthorized mineral transportation in the district. In the past 2 days, enforcement teams have seized 08 vehicles involved in unlawful extraction and movement of minerals, and a penalty of Rs 1.34 lakh has been imposed on the offenders, officials told Morning Kashmir.

Following the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Dr Basharat Qayoom, a daily enforcement roster has been issued to ensure continuous surveillance and strict monitoring at vulnerable locations. The department has instructed all tipper and dumper operators to transport minerals strictly against valid e-challans and permits, warning that any violation will invite strict legal action under the relevant mining laws. Over 20 ramps connected to the Jhelum and Rambiara river have also been dismantled to prevent illegal extraction and movement of mineral material from last 3 days.
The department has also appealed to the general public to report any illegal mining activities to the concerned authorities to help protect the district’s natural resources.
Meanwhile, Geology and Mining Department Srinagar seized seven vehicles in different areas of the district.
In a major crackdown on illegal mining transportation of minerals, Geology and Mining Department team Srinagar seized seven vehicles without E-challans during raids at Khunmoh, Zaffron Colony, Nowgam and Shalteng areas of District Srinagar.
