SRINAGAR, OCT 31: In a formal ceremony that took place at the Police Headquarters (PHQ) in Srinagar on Tuesday afternoon, R R Swain assumed the charge as the 17th Director General of Police for Jammu and Kashmir.
The event was attended by a distinguished gathering of high-ranking officials, including Special Director General of Crime for Jammu and Kashmir, A.K Choudhary, Additional Director General of Police, S. J. M. Gillani, M.K Sinha, and Vijay Kumar.
Also in attendance were the Director of Fire & Emergency Services for Jammu and Kashmir, Alok Kumar, Commissioner Secretary of Industries & Commerce, Vikramjeet Singh, Inspector General of Police, V. K Birdi, Inspector General of Police (CIV/Hqrs), B.S Tuti, and several other senior officers from the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Upon his arrival, R R Swain was warmly received by senior officers and was honoured with a guard of honour in the picturesque lawns of the PHQ. He also took the time to inspect the impeccably presented guard of honour.
R R Swain, an accomplished officer from the 1991 batch of the Indian Police Service (IPS), brings with him a wealth of experience from various critical and strategic postings he has held throughout his career.
His assumption of the role of Director General of Police for Jammu and Kashmir marks a significant chapter in the state’s law enforcement leadership.
It is worth mentioning here that Swain, currently serving as Special DG in the Jammu and Kashmir Police, has been assigned additional responsibilities as the Director General of the JK police force, effective from November 1.
“With the approval of competent authority, Shri R R Swain, IPS (AGMUT 1991), presently posted as Special DG (CID), Jammu and Kashmir, will also function as in-charge Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, in addition to his existing charge with effect from November 1, 2023 and until further order,” the order had said.
Swain’s career is distinguished by his unwavering dedication, tireless efforts, and relentless pursuit of excellence.
Throughout his journey in the Indian Police Service, Swain’s deep-rooted desire to serve his country was inspired by the heroic stories of police officers that he admired in his formative years.
As he will take the role of the new Police Chief, his mission is to revitalize the relationship between the police force and the public, ensuring that he is not just an officer but also a guardian of their hopes and dreams.
During his entire service, Swain has worked diligently to maintain law and order while also prioritizing community development and social initiatives. His appointment to this role, which officially begins on November 1, will see him succeed Dilbag Singh, the longest-serving Police Chief of Jammu and Kashmir.
Swain’s reputation as an exceptionally honest officer precedes him, and his career is adorned with numerous achievements. Notably, he has served as the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in both Srinagar and Jammu, the capital cities of the region.
With over 15 years of service on central deputation, Swain has demonstrated his capabilities in various roles.
As he takes the role of the J&K Police Chief, his exemplary career and commitment to the well-being of the people will reflect a promise of continued dedication to justice and security in the region.
