Srinagar, 25 July 2026: Swim N Survival Society Kashmir (SSSK) celebrated World Drowning Prevention Day 2026 at the Water Sports Center, Nigeen, with the participation of more than 100 swimmers, volunteers, coaches, and water sports experts.
The programme aimed to raise awareness about drowning prevention, water safety, and emergency rescue techniques. During the event, water sports experts conducted a live drowning rescue demonstration in Nigeen Lake, showing participants how to safely rescue a drowning person without putting themselves at risk.
Experts also demonstrated Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, and other life-saving techniques. The practical workshop helped participants understand the importance of quick response and proper rescue methods during water-related emergencies.
As part of the programme, volunteers were identified and selected by the experts to form a dedicated team that can assist rescue agencies during flood-related emergencies and other water disasters in the future.
Speaking on the occasion, SSSK President Shakeel Ahmad Shah appreciated the efforts of various departments and organizations working to improve water safety and rescue preparedness, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), swimming clubs, educational institutions, and schools with swimming pools. He emphasized that promoting swimming skills and water safety education is essential to reducing drowning incidents and building a safer community.
The event also featured impressive swimming and rescue skill demonstrations by Mohsin Fayaz, Ferooz Khan, Riyaz Wani, Yasir Makdoomi, Muzamil, Mehraj, and Zahid Iqbal, who showcased advanced swimming techniques, rescue methods, and emergency response skills before the participants.
The programme concluded with a pledge by all participants to promote water safety awareness, encourage swimming education, and work together to prevent drowning across Jammu & Kashmir.
