Sweet Success: PM Modi savours Selfie with Kashmir’s ‘Honey-preneur’ Nazim
Srinagar, Mar 7: In a heartwarming moment during his historic visit to Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi found himself impressed by the entrepreneurial spirit of a young local businessman named Nazim.
The PM even clicked a selfie with Nazim, whom he called his “friend”, after learning about his successful honey venture that has created jobs for over 100 youth in the Valley.
The chance interaction occurred as Modi was interacting with beneficiaries of various central government schemes as part of the ‘Viksit Bharat-Viksit Jammu and Kashmir’ program. Nazim apprised the PM about how his firm sold an impressive 5,000 kg of honey in the market by leveraging digital platforms.
Later, Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the selfie with his “friend Nazim”, saying he was struck by the “good work he’s doing” through his entrepreneurial venture. “A memorable selfie with my friend Nazim. I was impressed by the good work he’s doing…was happy to meet him. My best wishes for his future endeavors,” the PM wrote.
For Nazim, the meet with the country’s highest leader was an unforgettable high point. “If you have the will and determination, you will succeed always,” he told reporters afterward, expressing gratitude for the abundance of government schemes that are enabling Kashmiri youth to chase their start-up dreams from their mobile phones itself.
The selfie with the ‘honey-preneur’ encapsulated Modi’s mission on this historic first visit to Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 – to showcase the new face of entrepreneurship, opportunity and economic empowerment that is unfolding in the region. By spotlighting success stories like Nazim’s, the PM aimed to highlight how the Valley’s alienated youth are being given wings to soar through job creation and ease of doing business.
As lofty plans for industrial investments and infrastructural transformation of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh were announced, the humble selfie with Kashmir’s home-grown ‘honey-preneur’ represented the true sweet spot – catalyzing grassroots entrepreneurship that generates incomes and creates a sustainable future for the region’s youth. A powerful image worth much more than a thousand words.
