NEET UG Re-Exam, Amarnath Yatra Security Under Scanner: IGP Kashmir Orders Maximum Vigilance, Strict SOP Enforcement

Srinagar, June 18 : Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V.K. Birdi, on Thursday chaired a high-level security review meeting to assess preparedness for the NEET UG-2026 Re-Examination and the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY)-2026, directing officers to ensure foolproof security arrangements, strict enforcement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and seamless coordination among all agencies.

The meeting focused on reviewing security deployment, traffic management, public facilitation measures and overall preparedness to ensure the smooth, transparent and incident-free conduct of the national-level examination and the annual pilgrimage.

The review meeting was attended by IGP Traffic, Range Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), DIG Traffic, SSP PCR Kashmir, Staff Officer to IGP Kashmir, district Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) and other senior officers.

Reviewing preparations for the NEET UG re-examination, the IGP directed officers to maintain heightened vigilance at all examination centres and ensure strict compliance with prescribed guidelines. He stressed the need for adequate deployment of police personnel for crowd management, access control and maintenance of law and order around examination venues.

Birdi instructed officers to conduct thorough frisking and verification of candidates at entry points in close coordination with examination authorities to prevent any security breach. He also emphasized secure transportation, storage and handling of confidential examination material and called for close coordination with the civil administration and concerned departments.

To facilitate candidates, traffic authorities were directed to ensure smooth vehicular movement around examination centres and take all necessary measures to avoid traffic congestion. The IGP urged officers to adopt a professional, people-friendly and responsive approach while performing their duties.

The meeting also reviewed extensive security arrangements for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026. Stressing the significance of the annual pilgrimage, Birdi underscored the need for coordinated efforts among all security and civil agencies to ensure a safe, peaceful and successful Yatra.

District SSPs were directed to personally supervise security arrangements in their respective jurisdictions and ensure comprehensive security cover for Yatra convoys through effective deployment, continuous monitoring and prompt response mechanisms.

The IGP further instructed officers to strictly implement convoy movement schedules and cut-off timings while ensuring that regulations are enforced efficiently with minimum inconvenience to the general public.

Concluding the meeting, Birdi called upon officers to remain alert, strengthen inter-agency coordination and ensure effective execution of security and traffic management plans to safeguard public safety, maintain peace and facilitate the smooth conduct of both the NEET UG re-examination and Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra across Kashmir.(KNC)
