Srinagar, Jul 26: The Union Territory administration led by Lieutenant Governor Manooj Sinha is going to fill around 20000 vacant administrative positions soon.
One of the top government officials said that the identification of vacancies in the government and recruitment is a continuous and ongoing process and taken up under an accelerated recruitment drive.
“Over 30,000 open government positions have been filled in the previous three years, and the process is on to fill the 20,000 vacant administrative positions,” the official said, insisting not to be named.
He said that in the last three years, over 6 lakh young people have received financial and technical assistance to launch their own businesses.
It is to mention here that two years before Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had also proposed 50,000 jobs in the Government sector backed by budgetary allocation of the central government.
Sources said that there were nearly 84,000 vacant government posts in the Union Territory. “As many as 76,453 vacancies are of non-gazetted and Class IV level posts, however the Manooj Sinha led government took the initiative and around 30 thousand positions were filled in the last three years,” the official said.
Sources said that the Accelerated Recruitment Committee (ARC) had submitted its preliminary proposals for further recruitments in the Union territory.
Sources said that recently Lieutenant Governor, while reviewing the progress made for accelerated recruitments at various levels in the Government with particular focus on Class-IV and Class-III vacancies at a high level meeting had emphasized on simplification of recruitment procedures and maintaining transparency to ensure faster and flawless recruitments.
Sources clarified that for divisional level posts, the candidate of a particular division got preference. “However, for the UT-level posts, there was free and fair open competition among all the eligible candidates.
It is to be mentioned here that the Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday said that Nearly 30,000 vacancies were filled in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019,. Rai said the government of Jammu and Kashmir has carried out several governance reforms, including in the area of recruitment.
“After abrogation of Article 370, a large-scale recruitment drive has been carried out and the government of Jammu and Kashmir has filled 29,295 vacancies. Recruiting agencies have advertised 7,924 vacancies and examinations in respect of 2,504 vacancies have been conducted,” he said in response to a written question.
According to him, the government of Jammu and Kashmir has taken various initiatives to bring down unemployment by implementing various self employment schemes through different departments. These include providing subsidised loans for the establishment of sustainable income generation units.
From the results of the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) conducted by the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), estimates of unemployment rate are not available specifically for educated youth in Jammu and Kashmir for the period April-June 2021, he said. However, the minister said, from the PLFS conducted during July 2020-June 2021, the estimate of unemployment rate among those in the 15-29 age group for Jammu and Kashmir was 18.3 per cent.
